What is The Warburg Way ™?

It is an innovative, inexpensive, patented therapy for palliative care of cancer. It provides an option for cancer patients who have been diagnosed with advanced stages of solid tumors. Its benefits outcomes are highly reproducible. It can rapidly relieve pain and improve the quality of the patient’s life. The Warburg Way ™ is much less expensive than traditional cancer therapy, and side effects, including fatigue, nausea and hair loss are seldom observed.

The Scientific Basis of The Warburg Way ™

The therapy is called The Warburg Way ™ because it is based upon a 1927 observation by Dr. Otto Warburg, a Nobel laureate. Dr. Warburg observed that cancer cells required much more glucose than normal cells to meet their energy requirements, and that depriving them of glucose in the blood by administering insulin starved these cells and inhibited their growth and ability to survive (1). In fact, the altered metabolism possessed by cancer cells is now viewed as a hallmark, or common property of cancer. The Warburg observation led to the development of the PET-CT scan, a critical tool in the diagnosis of the severity and location of metastases by detecting the location and degree of accumulation of radioactive glucose in a patient’s body.

History of the Development of the Treatment

Over the past 15 years, Dr. Tom Tsang, Dr. Linda Meade-Tollin, Michael Pennington (co-inventors) and many collaborators, have developed a protocol based on Dr. Warburg’s observation. This protocol is now offered as a palliative care option in 28 hospitals and medical facilities in China and in Nogales, México. The scientific team of collaborators who contributed to the development of this highly reproducible protocol include researchers and physicians from multiple medical facilities in China, Mexico, and in the United States. Over 2000 patients have received over 20,000 treatments in China, and interested persons are encouraged to inquire about scheduling services at the Nogales clinic - International Warburg Way Medical located inside Laser Tech Med Spa. Overview of the Treatment Protocol

Each potential patient provides a complete and comprehensive medical history and discusses their individualized treatment plan with clinic staff and scientists. An outpatient treatment plan is designed and scheduled. Initial treatments are initiated with limited partial and temporary lowering of blood glucose by intravenous administration of regular human insulin for about 20 minutes. After the patient’s response is assessed, the glucose levels are raised back to pre-insulin levels, usually by having a meal. At the next appointment, the next stage of the treatment includes the glucose deprivation to starve the cancer cells, with the addition of approximately 1/10 the standard dosage of established chemotherapy drugs which have been used in treatment for years. After the intravenous administration, the normal levels of blood sugar are restored. The total time for treatment is 1-2 hours. Reduction in pain has been detected after a few treatments.

The Warburg Way™ Team Includes:

Dr. Tom Tsang, (co-inventor),
Dr. Tsang received a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Microbiology and Immunology and Cancer Biology from the University of Arizona. He was a student of Dr. Tim Bowden, who was the chief scientific officer of the Arizona Cancer Center. And after receiving his doctorate, Dr. Tsang became a member of the UA Cancer Center. He has published over 30 research articles. In 2007, Dr. Tsang went to China to further develop The Warburg Way™ protocol, training medical providers and serving as a liaison between patients and providers.

Dr. Linda Meade-Tollin, (co-inventor)
Dr. Meade-Tollin received her doctorate in biochemistry from the City University of New York and has over 30 years of experience in cancer research. She accepted an NIH postdoctoral position at the University of Arizona after receiving her doctorate and was a member of Dr. Bowden’s laboratory group and of the Arizona Cancer Center. She is a University of Arizona Research Assistant Professor Emerita.

Michael Pennington, (co-inventor)
Michael Pennington has over 15 years of experience as a laboratory manager and technical expert at the Arizona Cancer Center in cancer cell metastasis and antibody and peptide drugs development. For the last 10 years, he has been a Senior Scientist in the biotech industry, developing antibody and metabolic therapies.
